Relationships in the house.

The Dysfunctional Relationships within my Dolls House.
Each room and their concept and meaning.

Girl Room –
A room with a girl and someone laying on the floor, dark. The person on the floor is dead. While the girl is sitting brushing her hair smiling but with wide eyes, holding a knife in the other hand. An Obsessive Relationship, the room will be covered in writing everywhere. The woman is possessive, and killed her partner for love.

Prom Night –
A tall guy hitting the ceiling constantly to show it’s too loud in the room above. A guy next to him swaying back and forth. Leads everywhere. TV's with party hats on. The TVs with leads is a symbol for connections. Leads are connecting and they are a pair. TV’s showing static, meaning it has become a Stale Relationship and it’s boring. Prom night is supposed to be a big deal, so this couple are trying to have theirs in peace, with the taller one trying too hard to make everything perfect, to revive this boring rut they're stuck in.

Cat Lady –
Dead cats everywhere, hanging from the ceiling, piles and piles of them all around the lady in the middle. She is pushing a pram with dead cats in over and over. Relevance and idea: A relationship between an owner and its pet, unlike any other. This room is about a Smothering Relationship. How the lady wants to preserve her love for these cats so she smothers them with too much love thus resulting in their death. She forces these wild animals to become pets, domesticates them. They should be free to roam the wild. The cats are hung up, to show memories and special moments she had, just as we would with photos in frames. Capturing the special times we've had and hanging them up on the wall.

Half Pig Guy – Bathroom - 
Guy bathing in a half cut pig, blood. Shaving his legs. Wanting to shave to seem 'perfect' for the partner he could have. The pig is a symbol for that men often get called 'pigs' in life, being messy or rude in one way or another. He is shaving his legs to impress, thus not being himself. The pig is his real self-reflection. A Vein Relationship.

Shocking Room –
Two people in electric chairs that cannot move, sitting, waiting to get shocked. This room has the idea that if one person in a Relationship gets hurt then they both do in some way. How Relationships are a game. They’re both trapped in a Painful Relationship. They're connected by leads symbolising 'heart strings'. Both are upset and trapped, 1 cannot be happy because it would simply drag the other down with it. If one gets hurt, they both do.

Guy and the Flower – Kitchen - 
Providing food/nurture for the flower to grow healthy, just like a mother bird would to its young.  - A Nurturing and Dependent Relationship. The guy is caring for this flower. The flower is dependent on the guy for food (like baby and mother).

Butchers Room –
How when you’re stuck in an Exhausting Relationship that’s in a constant loop of the same problems. Every time you try to end it, or remedy the situation it just ends up full circle. The horse is a symbol for the dominant and powerful one in the relationship.

Dining Room –
Another Stale Relationship. Using food as comfort. One is dominant over the other showing this by making him much larger. The table is long showing the separation; also the food they’re eating is showing separation as well as the candle in the middle. Eating in silence.

The Small Gun Room –
Two small people arguing, ‘firing cheap shots’ at each other to upset one another. Not realising the hurt they are causing to the people around them.

Final animation first sketches and ideas

So here lies random sketches and idea trials for my final project in uni.

My first idea was to make my animation based on a friend. The animation would be about a rat that is being tested on inside a lab of some kind. He would get thrown a handheld games console to play on and he would loose over and over, getting more and more angry each time.

This is a rough sketch of the storyboard for the Rat clip.

After watching Nick Cross's Perihelion and looking more into his work, he really inspired me.
So now I wish to make my final animation more in this style and quite uncomfortable but have a low embedded meaning behind the short string of clips.

 The second idea I have for my random clips that are to be strung together;
  A father type figure sitting at a table. In a dark room.
 He is to press a button and food is brought out by a waiter; he sets down the food and lifts off the lid, and inside is a Horses head. The boy would then get a huge grin on his face showing teeth, raising up his sharp fork stabbing into the horses head into the eye. To then holding the eyeball up into the air admiring it.




 Third random and weird clip idea.

Final animation idea

So today I did some more thinking into my final animation  -  It will be set inside a house. I dolls house if you will. That opens up at the start of the animation- The theme is 'Relationships'. Inside this house you'll witness strange happenings between people, some are weird, some are pointless/or both!

Change of idea for my method

After watching this animation by Stephen Irwin, really made me think about my Dolls house idea.

Originally my animation was going to be set in a Dolls house with random bit of animations going on as you visit each room, very bizarre and weird feeling.
I still wish to keep it in a dolls house and keep it strange.
But after watching and thinking about The Black Dog's Progress, I've decided to take inspiration from this and make my dolls house a sort of living machine.

-The animation will Loop, over and over
-Will start with the first loop of animation at the bottom of the house, and stuff causing to progress through the house viewing random happenings while keeping it weird also interesting.
-A light will come on as you enter each room.
-In the end you will see the full lit house with each animated loop going on and on.

...How to finish?

Well, a few ideas..
As I'm liking the weirdness, and keeping it machine like- maybe to turn off each loop from start to finish using the lights as they came on. Like as a factory lights would turn off.

Or.

Screwing with the loop-
Making the first animation change in some way- that has a cause and effect on the other loops in the dolls house. Causing each loop to stop?

Many ideas to think about!
First, I need more room ideas!

AND:

I love the music for the BDP, so I have sent an email to the composer Sorenious Bonk to ask if he would like to make a score for my animation.

Room ideas

So here are so more room ideas,
(All my character will have no eyes, why? Because I say so. - All the eyes will be kept in a jar in the hallway of the house. Why? Because.)

A guy wearing a plague doctor mask dripping hot wax onto a pregnant ladies stomach.
Relation: He is providing warmth and strength to the unborn child.

The bottom one, an old lady- Ironing her skin, behind her a wardrobe full of different skins
Relation: Getting old and wanting to stay youthful to feel attractive.

Loops

So this is the sort of loop idea I have for the dolls house at the moment.
Starting in the bottom right,

1 - Butcher cutting off a horses head, it regrows in the loop, he turns and places it on a plate.
2 - The camera would follow the plate up into the next room
3 - Two guys sitting at the table, 1 guy (Dad) constantly eating, the dad will press a button that sends the plate upwards
4 - The plate comes and the kid starts to eat the horse head, when finished he chucks the plate behind him smashing.
5 - As the guy is eating you follow the smell/vapor upwards into the guy with the flower.
6 - The guy notices the smell and starts to feel sick by holding his mouth, and throws up on the flower.

(Notice the eyeballs in the middle of the house)

Quite like the Beauty and the Beast Rose in the glass.


I have a few more ideas but yet I need more rooms with loop actions in to link them up, I will upload as soon as I get more done.

3D house

Been making my 3D Dolls house for the start of the animation.


With rotation on the front of the house so it can open up.


Fair few ideas

The Ram and the Man.
Relevance: The ram has the guy for a pet, he is telling off the man for wetting himself on the floor.


Random guy with one big hand, guy taking a golden shower why?
Relevance: none...


Random character doodles, I like the right side face.


A guy sawing off his arm, blood dripping from it, dropping into the feeding troff. Feeding animals/people?
Relevance: Feeding the people/animals is a sign for power and reliability as they need the blood from the master to live.



People and the Tetris chairs:
Relevance and idea: Two people in electric chairs that cannot move, sitting, waiting to get shocked.
Everytime the TV gets a Tetris line, they get shocked, this sets the lights to flicker and a shock down to the next animation.
Relevance and idea: This room has the idea that if one person in a Relationship gets hurt then they both do in some way. 2 New Room Ideas

Ending idea

Ending idea is that there are two or more maybe even a gang of rats in the house walls having a shoot off, and a bullet passes through the walls and hits the lamp in the hallway, swinging and then snaps off. Falling down smashing the jar full of eyes crashing to the ground.

When this happens all the eyeless people in the house suddenly stop and rush to the eyes and almost a frenzied state. Picking up their eyes and sticking them back into the sockets they blink and look around.
FADE OUT.



Edited Animatic (Final)

After watching the animatic a few times, I thought it needed to be slightly longer and the ending was to quick.  So here is the final and revised version.



Timing

Here's my timing working out. Took me awhile to get the timing just right so that Soren Bonke can compose the music without any troubles.




Eyball Case Final

Measurements

Workings out for the correct measurements for the house canvas as a whole.
I was originally going to do each room separately in photoshop but it would have to be a whole picture for the camera to move around it with ease.
